All defeats are psychological. The only physical defeat you will experience is death. The body is a musical instrument, to be played, fine-tuned and listened to.
We defeat ourselves with our thoughts. We are not victims of our bodies. If anything, our body is a victim of our defeatist thinking.
In sport in general, we attend to our thoughts way too much, and not anywhere near enough to our body’s direct messaging.
Yes, sometimes the body gives up, but its usually at the hands of poor preparation, disorganised training, poor pacing or bad nutrition. Yep, all of that is poor intention, attention and execution and that is not the body's fault.
The body is direct, it doesn’t fuck around, the messages are clear and consistent, but you can only hear that shit if you are listening. Most of the time, people blame the body for piss poor thought hygiene.
If you think you are a victim of your body in a race situation, you have a huge opportunity to see the truth, it’s the other way around. Learn from that…this is true for life generally too.
We are living in a society that is suffering from a disconnect made of a dissociation to its own state. All defeat is psychological! You are either with it or without it in terms of focus.
People misunderstood focus. Focus is not thinking. Focus is made of deep listening, not deep directing.
Energy follows focus, you have to create a channel for that energy to flow.
You can’t think and listen at the same time. We are so conditioned to pay attention to mechanical analysis, that carries us up into our heads and keeps us there.
If you're in your head, you are out of your body and your heart.
The ability to listen to yourself has to be practised. Use your internal ears to listen to the music your body and heart are playing.
When it becomes a flow, win place or draw you won’t be defeated.
