Welcome to December. Wild that the year is nearly over.
Its been a huge period.
Busselton Ironman:
Racing. We've just had Busselton Ironman and John Hallis qualified for Nice World Championships with a strong race. David Arnold and Tony Burgin also putting together great races. James Baker who I coach under the TTSL banner had a strong race in the 70.3 to come 2nd in the 25-29 Cat. James is a newcomer to the sport coming from swimming so hes off to a great start.
World 70.3 Championships:
We had three at world champs in Taupo New Zealand. James Courtney, Fabio Vas Fernandes and Michael Perry. Michael went 4:40 in his first World championships and absolutely loved his experience. James Courtney had a big swim PB and then crashed heavily in the first 10km's badly bruising his knee and his shoulder, but he didn't cave and used all the tools in his mental armoury to finish in 5:07. Warrior. Fabio had a very hard day with serious cramps, another athlete who had to dig and find a way in very challenging circumstances, Fabio finished in 4:51 and although it wasn't representative of his form its was a win from a mental standpoint.
James Corbett:
James Corbett has been a tare on the ITU circuit finishing consistently top 5 at Continental Cup level. He won the Asia Cup in Japan leading start to finish and finished 16th at World Championships. He caped off his season at TinMan Olympic distance finishing 13 seconds behind Olympic silver medalist Hayden Wilde. Its been a while since I have dipped my toe in the ITU environment. I've seen this before, James is only 22 and he has a big future.
Mental Skills:
My work on the mental skills front has taken a surge and I am very much enjoying the connection in working in other sports and the athletes are thriving. The below are a few of the consistent people I am working with. The sessions have me working in Big wave Surfing, Paddling, Surf Ironman, Freediving, Aeronaughtics, Muay Thai, MMA, Ultrarunning, Track Running, ITU Triathlon, Long Course Triathlon, Long Distance Swimming, Powerlifting and other areas.
Super grateful for the passion that is coming to me here. The message gets stronger across the board, different sports they may be but the human element is exactly the same. A dream job.
Steve Rice:
Big Wave surfer Stevan Rice continues his amazing comeback to big wave surfing after seriously fracturing his femur at Jaws in Maui in 2021. Steve kicked off the season at Maverics in Northern California and a warm up swell at Jaws in Maui. As I write this there is a big double swell due to hit Jaws this Friday and he is mentally and physically ready.
Corey Barlett:
Its been amazing to witness the developing groudedness of Corey in his professional Muay Thai bouts. He has three wins from three, the last being December 6th in Melb for Poweplay Promotions. He sealed the fight with 3 knocks down of his opponent. We have worked hard on his centre, presence and ground.
Auden Parish:
Auden is a professional Surf Ironman who trains under Micheal king at Burleigh Heads surf club. We worked together before the Shaw and Partners Ironman Summer of surf series trials. Auden qualified for the elite series and had his first race in New last weekend at Wanda qualifying for the next round in Newcastle in Jan.
Lucas Forbes:
Lucus is a young Kiwi up and coming surf Ironman. He was the under 23 World Champion in prone paddleboard and is the current under 23 Coologatta Gold champion and has big goals for this year. Intelligent and paitent, he knows what he wants.
I want to make it clear that these sessions are open to all levels and all sports.
